Roger Dery, precision faceter
Since 1981, Roger's passion for fine colored gemstones has taken him around the world visiting mining and gem markets in India, Sri Lanka, South America, Southeast Asia, and throughout Africa including Madagascar. In the first 20 years he was only buying and selling finished gems. It was through the process of setting up two cutting factories in Namibia from 1999 to 2001 that his attention turned toward precision faceting.
Intrigued by the various cutting styles, he was no longer content with average gemstones. It was now time to embark on the journey of faceting his own. After contracting with Jerry Call of North Carolina to train him, he began by recutting gems from his own stock. Absorbed in the re-making of his inventory so they would come alive, he developed various techniques to re-create looks that were so popular in past centuries. This inspired Roger to create several genre of facet arrangements that you will find in his Revival, Renaissance and Vintage Series, as well as others.
The precision faceting of gems is Roger's passion and this allows him to marry his 29 years of experience in the gem trade with his attention to detail. His desire is to facet gemstones that will be passed down through the generations as they commemorate special occasions and mark rites of passage.

| Comments: | Performed in the classic square antique cushion, this design captures a certain richness, and yet picks up the brilliancy brought forth due to the confluence of facets from the bottom half of the gem. Of the pieces brought back from Tanzania last month, this is one of the finest. |
